Privacy Policy
We are committed to data privacy and absolute transparency. Learn how we process and protect your markdown and PDF files.
Automatic 7-Day Document Retention
To maximize user privacy, files generated in Guest Mode are automatically deleted from our server disks after 7 days. We anonymize guest logs and clear markdown text previews to ensure your confidential documents do not persist. Registered users can delete files from our disk instantly at any time.
1. Introduction
MD to PDF ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by Peak Collective LLC dba MD to PDF, a company organized under the laws of the State of Missouri, United States. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it.
This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website getmd2pdf.com and use our conversion services, whether through the web client or our APIs.
2. Data We Collect
We collect information you provide directly and metadata generated during usage:
- Account Information: Managed by Clerk, our authentication provider. This includes your email address, name, profile image, and authentication tokens from third-party login providers (GitHub, Google).
- Billing Information: Managed by Stripe, our secure payment gateway. We do not store or transmit raw credit card details. We only store transaction confirmations, customer identifiers, and subscription status flags.
- Document Markdown and Content: The markdown markup text you submit to our endpoints for conversion.
- Technical Metadata: Client IP addresses (for rate-limiting), browser user-agent strings, templates selected, file sizes, and request timestamps.
3. Document Content & Processing
Unlike many online tools, MD to PDF processes documents locally on our secure virtual private servers.
We use a Chromium pipeline (via Playwright) to compile your Markdown into layout-perfect PDFs.
We do not read, inspect, audit, or sell your document contents. Your data is processed entirely programmatically. We do not use your markdown files or PDFs to train AI models or machine learning algorithms.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the collected data for the following essential business purposes:
- To compile, format, and deliver your converted PDF files.
- To manage your customer portal, billing lifecycle, and subscriptions.
- To authenticate your identity and secure your developer API keys.
- To enforce guest limits (3 lifetime free conversions per IP) and daily rate-limiting rules.
- To audit system health, handle exceptions, and resolve security issues.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Our retention rules are designed around user control and security:
Registered Users
Conversion records and PDF files are stored on our secure filesystem for your dashboard history. You can permanently delete any conversion from your history inside the dashboard, which unlinks (purges) the PDF file from disk and deletes the database record immediately.
Guest Users (7-Day Purge)
Guest PDFs are stored on our servers for **7 days** to let you download the converted file. After 7 days, the PDF file is unlinked from the server filesystem, the IP logging is anonymized, and the Markdown text preview is scrubbed. The row log itself is kept (retaining file size, template used, and timestamp) solely to provide aggregated, privacy-compliant usage statistics in our admin dashboard.
6. Third-Party Services
We share specific, limited data with the following processors to operate our SaaS application:
7. Data Security
We secure your data using modern industry-standard protocols:
- All data transmitted to or from our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS (TLS 1.3).
- API keys are cryptographically hashed using SHA-256 before storage in our database.
- Files are stored inside access-controlled directories on our VPS, accessible only to the internal service runtime.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Regardless of your geographic location, we provide comprehensive rights over your personal data:
- Right to Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and files at any time.
- Right to Access: You can export a CSV of your billing and conversion metadata.
- Right to Rectification: You can update your user profile metadata inside the settings panel.
